The IICRC is a non-profit
certification body. It was founded in 1972 to establish and monitor
educational programs and standards for the inspection, cleaning and restoration
service industries. |

In the face of an overwhelming need
for qualified professionals in the restoration arts, the National Institute of
Disaster Restoration started, in 1976, the Certified Restorer (R) Program. The
objective of the program was to develop standards of skill, knowledge, and
ethics that would immediately distinguish the certified restorer from other
cleaning and reconstruction contractors.
Candidates face stringent entrance
requirements and a demanding program of training and testing.
As might be expected, not everyone is
able to qualify for the NIDR Certified Restorer status. Those who have been able
to complete the program must continue to live up to the high standards that
govern the program.

The Association of
Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration Foundation, Inc. (ASCRF) was formed in
2000 and is wholly owned by ASCR. It is a not-for-profit and tax-exempt
foundation under the provisions of Sec. 501 (c)(3) of the IRS Code. The mission
of the ASCR Foundation is to provide members and non-members with education and
training in the cleaning, damage mitigation, restoration and reconstruction of
the indoor built environment.
